A while ago, I talked here about something a little more serious than the kind of subject matter I usually blog about. Years ago, a young woman named Sophie Lancaster was beaten to death by a group of thugs just because of how she was dressed. Whenever I think about it, I always end up feeling both incredibly angry and close to tears. Despite the incredible tragedy of what had happened, however, something good has finally come from it. After Sophie’s death, her mother formed a charity, the Sophie Lancaster Foundation, which aims to eradicate the discrimination against people such as Goths, or anybody who strays from the norm in their fashion sense/art tastes. The organisation has managed to achieve many great things, but recently it’s had its biggest success yet: the Greater Manchester Police are finally recording attacks on members of subcultures as hate crimes.
As far as I’m concerned, it’s about time something like this happened, and hopefully, it’ll spread to other police forces all over the world. Threatening or hurting someone because of how they dress is of course a hate crime- it’s not acceptable to hurt a person because of the choices they make in life. The majority of Goths are sensitive, peaceful individuals, who mind their own business and very rarely hurt anyone at all. They deserve better than to be targeted by petty bullies.
Finally, police have started taking attacks on subcultures seriously

Very true, Tommy. This world would indeed be a waaaay better place if we focused to celebrate our similarities instead of hating each other because of our differences.
Yes indeed. ^_^ Outside of our silly makeup, us Goths have much in common with everyone else. 😀
That you are. 🙂
