There have been many great vampires throughout history, but none were greater than the Count Von Count of Sesame Street. Sadly, his pupeteer, Jerry Nelson, has just recently passed away. Rest in peace, Jerry. I’m sure he’d be glad to know that the Count shall remain forever undead in the hearts of children and adults everywhere.
Other characters he performed included Snuffleupagus, Herry Monster, Sherlock Hemlock, Statler (for a while, at least), Robin the frog, Camilla the chicken and so many more. But I think that the Count was his greatest role of all, as it’s one of the characters I remember best from my childhood. I adore him just as much as I do Gonzo, or Kermit, or Bert and Ernie. I feel sad that I didn’t know anything about him before I’d heard the news of his death, but he still managed to leave an impact on my life nevertheless. Like any great artist, he continued on with his work until the very end; even when he was no longer capable of doing actual pupeteering, he still voiced the characters. I feel like thanking him for such dedication, and for helping to make my childhood a happy one.
The count was my favorite! : ( RIP Jerry
It’s good to know that he’ll be remembered with love and fondness. 🙂
